Come explore the first inklings of spring! We will look at bark, buds, fruits, shoots and early flowers to identify plants in their transitions from winter to spring. Ethnobotanical connections including foods, medicines, crafts, ecosystem support and aesthetic characteristics will accompany a lesson on winter botany. We will start at the Appalachia School of Holistic Herbalism for 1.5 hours and then head out on a field trip to a near by location. Come with a friend and both receive a $5 discount. A Nine Month Experiential Journey through the Appalachia growing season. Advanced certification course for Fundamentals graduates or those with equivalent experience. For those who want to continue their study of herbal medicine and become a practitioner, the Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine offers a unique opportunity to learn the necessary skills, from assessment to treatment, and then practice those skills in a community Free Clinic under the supervision of Asheville’s leading herbalists. Students will learn holistic approaches to disease, how to take a medical history, make assessments and treatment plans, and how to integrate lessons from the traditional energetic systems of Chinese medicine and Ayurveda. Students observe and then conduct consultations in small groups, and finally participate in the Clinical Round Table. Begins February 2 and runs through October 23.
